Debra Keith trains parents how to protect their children, schools their students, and employers their workforce by being able to foresee violence using science-based behavior analysis and contextual intel.Holding a strong bias toward personal responsibility, Debra’s been training parents how to emotionally and relationally protect their children for the entirety of her three-decade career in mental health. She was promoting a proactively protective mindset before it was called Left of Bang by the US Marine Corps; now the wounds she teaches businesses and parents to prevent are emotional and physical. The focus still remains on mitigating suffering. Her experiences of working in jails, inner-city homes, with predators, or in her personal life --- being raised in a proud military and law enforcement family, and later deliberately living in an inner-city neighborhood --- have honed Debra's capacity to recognize patterns of behavior that precede violence. With over 20 years’ experience instructing on interpersonal dynamics, over 30 years professionally “reading” people and their interactions, as well as her willingness to put herself on the frontlines of potentially violent interactions, she brings a nuanced and keen first-hand understanding that makes her uniquely qualified to teach violence prevention using contextual cues and behavior analysis. Debra knows that in civilian life, hard tactics are rarely necessary if we are skilled in the soft tactics of situational awareness. Since hope is not a strategy, proactive prevention is key for thwarting violence toward a loved one, in a school, in the workplace, or in a crowd.Debra earned her BA in psychology/minor in social psychology, and her MA in Marriage and Family Therapy, where she graduated with distinction. As a published researcher, Debra is a proponent of the scientific method and using what is most effective. She was fortunate to receive the best training available in her profession, and has earned AAMFT Approved Supervisor and Clinical Fellow status, thereby attaining an elite level of achievement in her field. Her experience is grounded in science and what works. She is considered an authority on decoding interpersonal dynamics, predicting violence, relationships, and the mentality of violence. A sought-after guest instructor, and consultant for businesses, and houses of worship, some of Debra’s specialized training includes advanced interviewing, group/crowd dynamics, conflict management, behavior analysis, visual intelligence, and risk mitigation.Debra is the CEO of Vivid Defense, a consulting and safety-training company whose mission is to equip others to proactively protect their assets, whether they be loved ones, students, employees or physical spaces, using science-based, military-grade and combat-tested intel.As an instructor, Debra is dynamic and engaging. She enjoys garden design, tactical analysis, travel, and architecture. She has a can-do attitude and a strategic orientation.
